Artist Statement:
The women in my paintings mirror the images of Eastern women, from the part of the world where I come from. These women struggle from birth with social taboos, so much so that they don’t know how to act without them! An Eastern woman is usually in a struggle to exhibit strength and femininity at the same time. She puts up with the erosion of her soul so her fragility will not be apparent. She puts up a good façade. My paintings depict those among women who have silently pulled these masks off their faces to bare their complexities, pains and secrets. My symbolic and expressive look at these women’s portraits yearns to expose their wounded souls. The fish and the crows in my paintings are metaphoric displays of fertility and chaos in the lives of my female subjects
