Artist Statement:
I draw to return what modernity took from us. I make my own media, derived from raw materials with rich connotations and storied pasts. Texture from the grain of wood. Red pigments from a young wine. Earthy browns from tea. Dark shades from soot, or burnt in with a hot iron. Iconography from the western canon. My work reveals the poetry hidden in familiar objects, and mythologizes the material culture of modern life. It is about remembering where meaning lives.
